About Greg Skinner & His Service
Gregory J. Skinner
Borough of Peapack & Gladstone, New Jersey
A native of London, England, Gregory immigrated to the United States with his parents as an infant, eventually becoming a Naturalized US Citizen in 1985. He grew up in Gladstone, NJ and graduated from Villanova University in 1991.
Chief Skinner began his law enforcement career with the Peapack & Gladstone Police Department in 1987, was promoted to Sergeant in 1992 and then Chief of Police in 2003 where he served until his retirement in December 2017.
During his tenure as Chief he oversaw the modernization of the Department into one of the best equipped and trained law enforcement agencies in the region while strengthening its community focus.
He is a highly decorated police officer with many commendations including the Somerset County 200 Club Valor Award along with numerous letters of appreciation from the public.
Skinner enlisted in the US Navy Reserve in 1997 where he was deployed twice to the Middle East protecting US and Allied Naval Ships from terrorist attack. Some of Skinner’s military awards include 3 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and the Navy’s Small Craft Pin for his qualification as a small patrol boat captain.
Gregory is very active in our community. He has been a volunteer first responder for 34 years having served as First Aid Squad Captain, Assistant Fire Chief and is currently a Fire Department Captain. He was a member of the bio-ethics committee with the Matheny Medical and Educational Center and is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7858 in Bernardsville.
Chief Skinner has two adult children: Abigail who resides in San Diego, CA and John a resident of Gladstone. His parents and his sister and brother-in-law are also Borough residents.
I am declaring my candidacy for Mayor of the Borough of Peapack & Gladstone.
As a 40+ year resident of the town, a graduate of its former elementary school and Bernards High, an active volunteer EMT and firefighter for over 32 years and having served with its police department for 30 years including 14 years as the Chief, I have been dedicated to serving the Borough’s residents and visitors my entire adult life.
We have a wonderful community where people from all over New Jersey and beyond remark on it being the ideal place to live and raise a family.
Having been involved with the inner workings of the Borough for years and knowing most of our residents it is my desire to continue my public service to our great town.
I want to foster friendly and transparent relations between the Governing Body and the people we serve, maintain the excellent level of services provided to the residents and continue to preserve the safe environment and quality of life enjoyed by all who live, work and visit Peapack & Gladstone.
